How to choose a comfortable desk for a student

5 top tips for parents

School is not just about lessons and grades. It is also a space where children learn to focus, develop skills, and work independently. And the right desk plays an important role in this.

It would seem, what’s so difficult? But in fact, the comfort, posture, and even the mood of a student directly depend on a comfortable workplace.

🔹 1. Child height = desk height

The optimal height of a desk for a student is from 58 to 76 cm, depending on age and height.
How to check the comfort? When the child is sitting at the desk:
– elbows should lie on the surface at a right angle
– feet should be completely on the floor or on a stand
– shoulders should be relaxed

If the table is too low, the child slouches. If it is too high, he/she raises his/her shoulders. Both are harmful to posture.

🔹 2. Enough space for studying

The tabletop should be at least 100×60 cm to accommodate textbooks, notebooks, a laptop, and a lamp.
Ideally, if there is still free space for writing and hands, so that the child does not “push” everything while studying.

🔹 3. The presence of drawers and shelves

✅ Small drawers under the tabletop – for office supplies
✅ Side cabinets – for notebooks, books, appliances
✅ Addition (if available) – for books, table lamp, decor

This allows you to keep order and quickly find what you need – without unnecessary nerves.

🔹 4. Materials – safe and pleasant to the touch

The table should be made of non-toxic materials, without a pungent odor and sharp corners.
The surface should be matte so that it does not shine under the lamp and does not tire the eyes.

🔹 5. Adjustment is a big plus

If your budget allows, choose a model with adjustable height or tabletop angle. This allows you to adjust the table to the child’s height and even change the position during classes.

A desk for a student is an investment not only in learning, but also in the child’s health and habits.
Choose not by color or design, but by comfort, functionality, and adaptability.

And most importantly, choose together with your child. This will help you create a space where your child will want to learn.
