Kitchens with film facades: proper care is the key to many years of use

×

Kitchens with film facades have remained one of the most popular solutions for many years. They combine aesthetics, design variety, and affordability. However, the durability of such kitchens directly depends on proper care. Here’s how to keep your facades looking beautiful for years to come.

What is a film facade?

Film facades are made from MDF board, onto which a special PVC film is applied under vacuum pressure. This film is responsible for the color, texture, and protection of the surface.

The advantages of such facades are:

  • a wide range of colors and textures (glossy, matte, imitation wood);
  • moisture resistance;
  • affordable cost;
  • the possibility of manufacturing facades of complex shapes.

At the same time, the film requires proper use, especially in the kitchen, where temperatures and humidity are high.

Basic rules for caring for film facades
1. Avoid high temperatures

The film is sensitive to prolonged exposure to heat.
Not recommended:

  • placing facades close to the oven without thermal insulation;
  • leaving the oven door open for a long time;
  • directing hot steam directly onto the facade.

Steam and high temperatures can cause the film to peel off.

2. Proper cleaning — without aggression

To clean the fronts, use:

  • a soft sponge or microfiber cloth;
  • warm water;
  • neutral detergents without abrasives.

Prohibited:

  • powders and hard brushes;
  • products containing acetone, alcohol, or chlorine;
  • steam cleaners.

3. Remove dirt immediately

It is best to wipe away grease, sauces, and water droplets immediately after cooking. Dried stains are more difficult to remove without damaging the coating.

4. Ensure proper ventilation

A high-quality extractor hood is a must for kitchens with film-coated fronts. It:

  • reduces the impact of steam;
  • prevents surfaces from overheating;
  • extends the service life of the fronts.

5. Be careful with mechanical stress

Do not:

  • open or close doors abruptly;
  • hang heavy objects on the fronts;
  • use the fronts as a support.

Even durable film is not designed to withstand impact or strong pressure.

How to tell if your kitchen needs attention

Signs of improper care:

  • film swelling or peeling;
  • discoloration near the stove or oven;
  • cracks or dull spots.

In the early stages, the problem can still be stopped by adjusting the operating conditions.
